Popular Ibadan socialite, Alhaji Abass Oloko has revealed the reason behind his likeness for ‘solid’ automobile.
Oloko was one of the closest allies of late strongman of Ibadan politics, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu and late Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola.
Apart from cars, he has numerous properties in the state capital. And from 2003 till 2013, he served in the government of Oyo State, mostly in the Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing).
Chatting with InsideOyo, Oloko, who just returned from the United States of America, said he bought his first car -Volkswagen ‘Igala’ in 1982, adding that till date, “to the glory of God, I have used more than 50 cars. Most of my cars are always customised -‘Oloko’,” he disclosed.
On how he came about the name ‘Oloko (owner of cars ), he narrated: “My late grandfather, Olojede, was the first person to buy a car in the whole of Kobomoje area of Ibadan South East local government of Oyo State. He became so popular that whenever anybody was coming to our house, they will say I am going to ‘Ile-Oloko and that how the name got stuck.”
“For your information, even the youngest of my children can see a toy car and leave until you buy for her. They have also been ‘infected’ with the obsession. And I am happy. The name is working for us,” Oloko, who is the Mogaji (head) of Olojede compound, revealed, boasting that “at present, I have more than enough cars. That is not to say God should stop his mercies; I need more. People know me with cars.”
