Five teams were able to qualify from the qualification stage that teams from the CAF have to go through, with the continent being represented by Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia.
Naturally, there will be many Africans that will likely be looking to enjoy with N1bet throughout the competition, too, which is why there will be many that will want to see some memorable moments from the teams that head to Qatar to represent the continent.
But, which teams will they want to see be replicated? Let’s take a look at the teams that have left a lasting impression when playing in the world’s biggest football competition.
Cameroon 1990
The first team that we will look at is the Cameroonian team of 1990. This was a side that was led by the great Roger Milla and included other stars such as Francois Omam-Biyik, Emmanuel Kunde, and Franklin Salomon, in a side that was very disciplined and organized. This was a team that went on an incredible run to the quarter-finals of the 1990 World Cup after winning Group B which featured Argentina, before eventually losing to England in a close match.
Nigeria 1994
Nigeria’s 1994 World Cup team was a side that was led by the great Nwankwo Kanu and included stars such as Jay-Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, and Emmanuel Amunike. Again, this was a team that had a great deal of individual talent, with Kanu being one of the best strikers in the world at the time. This was a team that went on an incredible run to the second round of the 1994 World Cup – again winning a group (Group D) that featured Argentina, before eventually losing to Italy after extra time.
Ghana 2010
The Ghanaian team of 2010 is another memorable side from Africa to have competed in the FIFA World Cup, with players like Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Kevin-Prince Boateng, and Kwadwo Asamoah all being key figures. Many remember their efforts in the 2010 edition of the competition as they managed to reach the quarter-finals, before eventually losing to Uruguay in an incredibly controversial match on penalties. Many will remember it instantly as the game in which Luis Suarez deliberately handled the ball and stopped it going in, with Gyan smashing the ball against the bar in the resulting penalty deep into the final moments of the game!
Morocco 1986
Morocco’s team of 1986 is another memorable team from Africa to have played in the FIFA World Cup, as it was another that managed to reach the quarter-finals. They topped their group that involved England, Poland, and Portugal, before being defeated by West Germany 1-0.
Senegal 2002
Many Africans will remember the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan & South Korea because of the performances that Senegal had managed to produce on the pitch. The team, which had players like El Hadji Diouf, Papa Bouba Diop, Salif Diao, and Henri Camara – who all instantly became household names – was able to reach the quarter-finals, too. They shocked the world when they defeated the defending champions France in the Group Stage in the very first game of the competition. They then defeated Sweden via the Golden Goal rule in the Round of 16 before being beaten by the same method by Turkey in the quarter-final.
