A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Hon. Kazeem Akinjide Akinola, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency seat in the forthcoming general elections.
He made the declaration during the APC Ona-Ara Local Government general meeting held at Wesley High School Ibadan, where party leaders, faithful, and supporters gathered in solidarity.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Akinjide expressed his readiness to serve and bring purposeful representation to the federal constituency. He stated that it’s time for Ona-Ara to produce the next representative in the House of Representatives, noting that Egbeda has been occupying the position since 1991.
“I have come today to present myself formally to our great party and to declare my ambition to represent Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency. For too long, the seat has remained in Egbeda, dating back to 1991. It is time for fairness, and Ona-Ara must take its rightful turn. I am ready to serve, and I am confident that with your support, we will deliver victory to our party,” he declared.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Ona-Ara Local Government, Prince Abdulwasi Ogundipe, described the APC as a party of peace and unity. He commended the leadership of the party in the state for their inclusive approach and urged members to avoid divisive tendencies.
“This is a party of peace, and we will continue to promote unity. There is no room for factions in Ona-Ara. We applaud Hon. Akinjide for his humility and for following due process. The party remains open to all progressives willing to serve the people,” he said.
The meeting also witnessed the defection of former PDP members from all 11 wards in Ona-Ara to the APC, citing their belief in the leadership and capacity of Hon. Akinjide. The decampees were warmly received by the party chairman and other leaders, who described their return as a “homecoming.”
Other APC leaders and stakeholders who spoke at the event also emphasized unity, urging all members to put the interest of the party above personal differences and work together for victory in the next election.
