As the whole world is basking in the euphoria of the new year (2021), a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo state, Architect Hassan Olawale Giwa has urged Nigerians to remain committed to all efforts capable of restoring peace and stability to the global community even as he called for fervent prayers and strict adherence to established protocols in the quest to defeat the scourge of Covid-19.
In a new year message contained in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday and signed by his Personal Assistant (media), Babatunde Salawudeen, Arch. Olawale Giwa described 2020 as the most turbulent in the modern times as it came with a lot of socioeconomic and political challenges which have direct and indirect impact on the lives of the people and nations of the global community.
“As individuals; we were full of hope for great things to come with 2020 but as God would have it, the year turned out to be one with a lot of drawbacks to humanity and the entire universe. The worst of it is the unfortunate breaking out of Covid-19 pandemic which still ravages the earth. Several millions of people across the globe have been infected with over 1.7 human deaths recorded so far while economies of nations have been badly affected.
“While we pray God to put a stop to the pandemic and restore normalcy to the whole world, we are equally praying Him to grant eternal rest to all victims and uphold their families. Meanwhile, we use this opportunity to make a passionate appeal to all the people in the society to be conscious of coronavirus and ensure that they observe all safety protocols religiously as recommended by relevant authorities.” Arch. Giwa said.
In the same vein, the Ibadan-born politician has congratulated leaders, members and supporters of Oyo APC as well as the people of Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency of Oyo state on the occasion of the new year. “We all have good reasons to be grateful to God Almighty for the opportunity of another brand new year which promises to be a threshold of peace, progress and development. 2021 is going to be a unique year in which God will increase His mercy and grace upon us.
“We would also like to use this opportunity to appeal for steadfastness and commitment from APC faithful across the state especially as the party is planning to carry out its membership registration and revalidation exercise beginning from the second week of January, 2021. We call on all the indigenes and residents of Oyo state including the good people of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency to troop out en masse and participate actively in the membership registration and revalidation exercise of the APC to enable them write their names in gold.
“APC remains the only Progressive platform around and our people in all the fourteen and eleven wards of Lagelu and Akinyele local government councils respectively cannot afford to take the back seat. This is another time for them to rise up and be counted as Progressives and patriots which they have always been since the time of the sage- Chief Obafemi Awolowo.” Arch. Giwa concluded.
