Some ‘powerful elements’ in the Oyo State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, and Social Democratic Party, SDP are currently meeting on the need to present Engr. Seyi Makinde and Hon. Lanre Agoro on as governorship and deputy governorship candidates as the 2019 election draws near.
Though the platform to be adopted for the purpose is not yet sure, insideoyo.com reliably gathered that Saki-born former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Michael Koleosho is the chief proponent with N1bn earmarked for the project.
Koleoso, a former leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, left the party after losing out of favour with Governor Abiola Ajimobi which he reportedly helped to clinch the ticket of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in 2011.
Billionaire oil magnate, Makinde was the governorship candidate of SDP in 2015 election while Agoro represented Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope in the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011 under the patform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP before joining the APC in 2011 and LP in 2015. Agoro, a lawyer and agriculturist by training is believed be strong in Oke-ogun zone of Oyo State, especially in his Igboho hometown where he led his party’s candidate to victory in the Assembly election and in the bye-election that resulted after the death of the former occupant. Out of the 10 local government areas in the zone, Oorelope local government where he comes from is the only place the ‘rampaging’ APC lost in the 2015 election.
Those who are in the know of the alliance said with Makinde’s deep pocket and his philanthropic posture coupled with Agoro’s perceived popularity, 2019 election is as good as decided in their favour.
Makinde, insideoyo.com gathered, has been talking to some political heavyweights within and outside the state on the need to form an alliance against the ruling APC so as to go into the forthcoming election stronger.
