The All Grassroots Alliance (AGA) in Oyo state has said that it has the support of the citizens of Oke-Ogun for its governorship candidate in the state, Dr Olufemi Okunola, to be the state governor in 2019.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, Dr Olukayode Oshiariyo, the National Chairman of the party, said that the party had begun consultation with political stakeholders in Ogbomoso, Ibarapa and Ibadan to ensure solidarity following the development.
He said that the Oke- Ogun Senatorial District of Oyo State, the constituency of the governorship candidate, had unanimously adopted the candidate.
“The Oke Ogun Development Consultative Forum, an umbrella body of the zone’s sons and daughters, has anchored this renewed effort.
“However, this is the only time the zone will speak in unison to have its son to occupy Agodi Government House, Ibadan, since the state was created in 1976,’’ Oshiariyo said.
He also said that soliciting the support of “the zone is fundamental to winning the 2019 governorship election in the state because Oke-Ogun has a population of 1.4 million people with 60 per cent landmass in the state’’.
“The party will never be party to any political gang-up but will be prepared to work with registered parties that share and believe in our party policy directions and visions for the grassroots mobilisation.
“AGA pleads with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to be truly independent by being fair to all parties during the general elections.
“The party had gained confidence of most Nigerians within a short time of its registration and the leadership of the party would not disappoint Nigerians,’’ he said.
He said that that the party “has governorship candidates in 17 states, 124 candidates for state houses of assembly and 66 candidates for the National Assembly’’.
