Ten (10) Local Government Committee Chairmen in Oyo state have been selected for Outstanding Performance Awards by Merit Communications, a high profile organization which has been monitoring and evaluating activities of the Democratic rule in Nigeria since the beginning of the 4th Republic.
According to a statement by Gbenga Ojedokun, MD & Chief Executive Officer of the non-governmental organisation, the 10 awardees were nominated for the award of excellent performance after thorough and objective analysis of questionnaires administered by members, House of Assembly, in addition to on-the- spot assessment of the quantity and quality of projects executed, relevance of the projects, sustainability, prudence, accountability and accessibility of the Caretaker Chairmen to their people, among others.
He stresses further that the list of the ten (10) awardees will be unveiled on the day of the event.
The award presentation ceremony comes up on Thursday, 28th January, 2021 at 11am in the prestigious International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The occasion will feature a lecture on “Local Government Development and Administration” to be delivered by a reputable scholar from the premier university.
In the meantime, the organizers, Merit Communications appreciates the Oyo state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for creating an enabling environment for growth and development at the grassroots.
In the same vein, the group commends the speaker of Oyo state house of assembly, the Right Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin and the entire honourable members whose oversight function reports form one of the key indices for assessing the local government caretaker committee chairmen’s performance.
The organisation has sought the blessings of the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly to chair the occasion and the Chairman, National Union of Journalists, Oyo state chapter, Comrade Demola Babalola as Special Guest of Honour.
The Director of, Kayode Adejumo-Bello also reiterates that the COVID-19 protocols will be strictly adhered to at the event.
