Flooding is a universal disaster. Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State has not been an exception to this disaster. In view of this, the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP), a World Bank supported project has started taking measure to prevent the Oyo state capital, Ibadan from experiencing flooding in this rainy season.
The agency has organized a 3-Day workshop on the role of the media in mitigating flood risk in Ibadan. The workshop is on-going at the Hotel de Haruna, Oyo.
The Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP) is a World Bank supported the project aimed at developing a long-term flood risk management framework and improving the infrastructure of Ibadan City, especially those destroyed by August 26, 2011 floods.
The project is a multi-sectoral initiative involving multiple dimensions of urban flood management including early warning and response, climate risk mitigation, water resources management, solid waste management, urban land use management and infrastructure development.
The agency observed that the media has a key role to play in mitigating flood risk in Ibadan. Hence, there is a need for a cordial relationship between the media and the agency.
The workshop started on Tuesday 10th of December 2018 after the arrival of participants on Monday 9th of April, 2018.
The Tuesday session commenced with a registration of participants, followed by Goodwill message.
